We attempted to make a very comfortable, contemporary sofa. Ploum is an exercise in comfort and combines two materials: stretch-fabric upholstery and ultra-flexible resilient foam. The shape and vast proportions were specially studied to allow the whole body to recline in many different positions on the sofa’s supple, quilted surface without edges. Its seat is relatively low, we wanted it to be organic. We pictured Ploum like a ripe, voluptuous piece of fruit.
Perhaps the use of a stretchy
fabric is a symbolic parallel to a contemporary lifestyle, in which flexibility of use and comfort seem to us to be essential.
